
Big Country Flute Day
The Big Country Flute Club's Flute Day is a day full of flute education and performance opportunities.
Spring Flute Day 2024 is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd. It will be held at the First Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Abilene. The cost of lunch is included in the attendance fee. The masterclass has 3-4 available performance slots; they will be filled in order of registration arrival. Follow the link below to register.

9:30-10:00 - Stretching exercises with Stone
10:00-10:30 - Group warm-up with Alex
10:30-12:00 - Flute choir reading with Emily
12:00-1:00 - Lunch
1:00-2:00 - Foundation class with Dr. Eiben
3:30-5:00 - Masterclass with Dr. Eiben*
5:30 - Gala Recital featuring Dr. Eiben & Marc Sanders**
*Performing in the masterclass will require the performer to prepare something to play, ex. a solo from UIL or a region etude. The performer will get 20-30 minutes with Dr. Eiben, depending on how many people sign up.
**Gala recital attendance is free to the public.
Guest Artist: Dr. Lyndsay Eiben
Lyndsay Eiben is a distinguished musician, educator, and flutist, deeply rooted in the musical fabric of West Texas. She currently resides as the principal flutist of the West Texas Symphony and flute professor at the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, TX. Dr. Eiben also presents flute masterclasses and recitals all over Texas and is committed to helping others become better musicians and teachers.
Dr. Eiben's academic achievements include earning a Bachelor of Music Performance in 2008 and a Master of Music Performance in 2010, both from West Texas A&M University. During her time at WTAMU, she held the position of Associate Principal of the Amarillo Symphony, Amarillo Opera, and performed with the Amarillo Little Theater. Her dedication to music education also led her to work as a private flute instructor for Canyon and Randall County Independent School Districts. Furthering her education, Eiben was accepted into the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music to pursue a doctorate in music. Her time in Ohio saw her performing with Cincinnati Landmark Productions, the Showboat Majestic Theater, and the Covedale Center for Performing Arts. Dr. Eiben has also been recognized as a finalist in national flute competitions, including Myrna Brown and the National Flute Association Young Artist competition. Dr. Eiben holds professional memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, the National Flute Association, and the College Band Directors National Association.

Guest Lecturer: Stone Taylor
Stone Taylor is currently enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University where he is studying to be a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Stone grew up in the little town of Oroville, CA. He graduated from Pensacola Christian College in May of 2023 with his B.S. in Natural Science with a Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis. Stone has many hobbies some being strength training, running, building, and trail riding. He is passionate when it comes to learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body so that he can provide excellent rehabilitation to those in need of physical therapy.
At Flute Day, Stone will be leading a stretching class, discussing pre- and post-practice exercises specifically designed to target trouble areas typical to flutists, such as the shoulders and neck.
